VIBURNUM BEETLES ON THE RISE – PROTECT YOUR PRECIOUS SHRUBS!
DON’T PANIC, WE’RE HERE TO HELP
WHAT IS VIBURNUM LEAF BEETLE?
The Viburnum Leaf Beetle (Pyrrhalta viburni) invaded southeastern Wisconsin in 2015 and has since wreaked havoc on susceptible Viburnum species. Originating from Europe and Asia, this invasive pest poses a significant threat, particularly to our native Viburnums that lack resistance against it.
VIBURNUM LEAF BEETLE DAMAGE
Beware of the Viburnum Leaf Beetle, as it exclusively targets specific Viburnum species. These voracious pests swiftly skeletonize leaves, causing complete defoliation in affected areas. While the larval stage inflicts the most damage during spring and early summer, the adult beetles continue to feast on foliage from mid-summer through fall. Stay vigilant and take action to protect your cherished Viburnums!
HOW DO YOU CONTROL VIBURNUM LEAF BEETLE?
Rest assured, your certified arborist will work closely with you to develop a tailored treatment plan for combating the Viburnum Leaf Beetle. Effective control measures may include removing and disposing of egg infested twigs through pruning, thorough application of dormant or all season horticultural oil, targeted insecticide spraying during the larval stage, or precise insecticide application during the adult stage. Together, we’ll take proactive steps to safeguard your Viburnum shrubs and keep the beetle menace at bay.
